NCARB is a nonprofit organization and global leader in architectural regulation. Our members are the architectural licensing boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While each jurisdiction is responsible for regulating the practice of architecture within its borders, NCARB develops and administers national programs for licensure candidates and architects.

 

NCARB’s Examination Directorate is searching for a collaborative Test Development Coordinator to join our team and work together on developing and delivering the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®).

 

The Test Development Coordinator is responsible for working with Examination team

members and NCARB volunteers on the development and maintenance of a fair, valid,

reliable and legally defensible licensure exam. This position works collaboratively, both in

person and virtually, with other members of the Examination team and with NCARB’s

SMEs and testing partners in support of NCARB’s and the Examination team’s goals.

Examples of tasks include preparation of materials for volunteer item writer homework

assignments, exam item writing support and reviews, item referencing, item bank

maintenance, and test form assembly.

 

This position reports to the Assistant Vice Presidents, Examination and is a highly

collaborative role working with others across the directorate and with our volunteers. We

Duties will include:

 

  • Review and edit newly authored items and resources on a regular basis, ensuring that form and structure is consistent with psychometric and NCARB standards and content fit and fulfills approved test specifications. 

 

  • Provide both in-person and virtual support to SMEs throughout their item development work, including training on item authoring and form review, managing homework assignments and providing oversight of item development workflow. 

 

  • Collaborate with Exam team members on development of committee workplans and training materials, as well as development of policies and procedures for item writing best practices.

 

  • Continual learning as you develop and maintain an understanding of NCARB’s programs and services and the test development industry.

 

 

At a minimum, you have:

 

  • An open, positive attitude that enjoys working as part of a team.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology, English, education, mathematics, psychometrics or related field. 
  • One to two years of relevant experience with emphasis working with people and / or volunteers in a test development / education environment or similar, coordinating activities, writing, editing, and supporting projects. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders to accomplish NCARB’s goals and objectives. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Proficiency using technology and a wide variety of software applications to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint), item authoring and banking applications. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to achieve required deadlines. 
  • Strong organizational skills to work effectively in a team setting on concurrent processes and projects to meet established goals, deadlines, and quality standards.  
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including weekends. 

 

Ideally you have:
 

  • Two or more years of experience working in exam development. 
  • A passion for writing, proofing, and editing.  
  • A passion for engaging and communicating with people. 
  • Prior experience facilitating group activities and discussions. 

 

It would be awesome if you also have:
 

  • Experience with licensure and/or certification organizations.
  • Interest in architectural profession and licensure. 
  • Experience working with teams in an Agile project management environment.
